In 2010, I built a successful wedding business named Sweet Sunday Events. I specialized in innovative, trendy wedding design and installations. While my work graced the pages of countless blogs and top wedding magazines, I couldn’t shake the feeling of longing for something more.
So, in 2013, I attended Joy Thigpen’s creative direction and styling workshop in hopes of finding that missing piece. It didn’t take me long to realize what I was searching for was exactly what I had been dreaming of for years. In one word, authenticity. For far too long I was ignoring the designs I find most pleasing in order to keep with the next big trend. The timeless, organic, graceful beauty of nature is the foundation of my true esthetic.
And with that, Without Wax, Katy was created.
The name, Without Wax, is extremely meaningful, not only in my work life, but personal, as well. My husband is the epitome of romantic. Every note he’s ever written to me, has ended Without Wax, J. It simply, but oh-so beautifully, translates to sincerely. Also, in early years, when artists reviewed their sculpted art pieces, wax was used to fill any cracks. If the art piece was perfect, completely authentic, it was stamped, Without Wax. Just as these artists did, I will do today for your wedding.
